Show CONGRESS HA8 ADJOURNED. Second 8ettlon of Fifty-eighth Congress Con-gress Passes Into History. The closing of the second session of tho house of the Fifty-eighth congress con-gress was made notable by the demonstration demon-stration which was evoked by a resolution reso-lution offered by Mr. Williams, the minority mi-nority leader, testifying to the courtesy cour-tesy and Impartial manner in which Speaker Cannon had presided over the house. The resolution was not of the perfunctory kind, but was expressive expres-sive of the kind feeling which men in the house of all parties entertained toward him. In a graceful speech the speaker doclared bis appreciation of the resolution. Many conference reports were agreed to on bills which had been la dispute between the two houses. The only debate of any importance was on the bill providing for the restoration restora-tion to the naval academy of three cadets ca-dets who had been dismissed for -has-lng, the bouse voting overwhelmingly against the bill. , In the senate, Mr. Allison, chairman of tto committee on appropriations, submitted a series of tables, prepared by tho clerks of the appropriation cjnimlUeen, showing an increase at 128,000,000 over the appropriations for the last session. He gave the principal princi-pal items of increase, as follows: For the navy, 116,000,000; on account of the postal serxice, including rural free delivery. 18,000.444. He also stated that there Is an increase of $8,883,000 in the permanent annual appropriations, appropria-tions, the chief items being 17,000,000 for the bank note redemption fund, and the next most Important Item being be-ing 12,250,000 for the irrigation reclamation recla-mation fund. The senate at 1:26 p. m. went Into executive session, and when at 1:S2 the doors were reopened, Mr. Gorman offered the usual resolution expressive expres-sive of the thanks of the senate to the president pro tem., Mr. Frye. The resolution prevailed unanimously. Mr. Frye responded briefly and was loudly applauded. The chair then declared de-clared the senate adjourned sine die. |
