Show v r v 4 I THE SCHOOL ELECTION r I The citizens seem to have slipped one over tho I Dcmcratlc-Bull Mooso politicians cdnesdWay nnd I through their votes have elected the non-partisan ' ticket, or a majority of It. Wo congratulate tho citizens on their good Judgment, which insures an- II other four years of progressive non-partisan school ! administration. I Tho election passed off quietly, tho Second wnrd I furnishing tho only sensation of tho day. Here n popular uprising developed against Charles England who had been endorsed by all partleB, and W. W. i Hall camo within five votes of election. Investlga- I tlon revqals the 'fact that tho action was not so j much ngnlnst Mr. England personally, although It I Is qulto generally conceded that ho is not the most J popular man In the wnrd, as It was against the way ho was nominated. It appears that his noml- g nation on tbo citizens ticket nt least, was tbo re- I suit of bad faith on tho part of a few selfish lndl- I vlduals who participated In both conventions, nnd r who would -not hnvo supported nny one but Eng- J land bad ho failed In the citizens convention Such I actions nro entirely disreputable, and Justified tbo I stinging rebuko administered by the citizenship of I this Intelligent ward. It Is rumored that tho en- tiro program was honeycombed with promises of I patronago on tho part of tho bosses. That the I clerkship was promised to two ardent England sup- I porters, and that Mr. Andorson, tho cool dealer was 1 to havo tho coal business, and thereby get even I with tho School Board on an account that has glv- I en him much concern in tho pnst. How far this r program prevailed wo aro not prepared to say, but I Mr. Anderson, at least should take steps to correct i somo of tho Impressions being formed concerning I his actions, for a great injustlco Is likely to bo bar- f bored ngnlnst him If thcro Is no truth In them. At I any rate tho politicians bavo found tho pulse- of I the people, and It goes without saying that tho r combination that recently nttempted to override the peoplo will movo, more cautiously in tho future.
