Show YALE MEN HAVE BIGGER LUNGS. Dr. May of Michigan Finds That New Haven Freshmen Excel His. Dr. May of tho University of Michigan Mich-igan lins compared the statistics of his freshmen class with thoso of the Yalo freshmen. He develops tho fact that In ono particular only havo the Yalo freshmen any decided advantage, and that Is in luug capacity. The figures aro 256 against 213. Dr. May ascribes this to the greater great-er opportunities for physical training in tho schools of the cast. The average aver-age ago and weight of the eastern 1911 man is slightly greater. Yale has more habitual tobacco users. Of the Michigan freshmen 23.7G per cent, uso tobacco customarily, whllo 46 per cent, use It at Yale. Dr. May reports that 145 of the 800 students he examined woro glasses, but more should have had thorn. Of tho students about 150 suffered from arlous deformities, such as stoop shoulders, flat feet and curvlturo of tho spine. Howovor, they are better physically than tho 1910 class nt Michigan, and Dr. May hopes that his 1912 class will havo bigger lungs than tho Yale men. |
