Show MINI llll m.ii miiiini 1 Democratic Organ 'Off' Fighting For W. J. Kerr And Not The College. Off Its Base As Usual. The democratic organ at last makes It clear what It Is lighting for tho preservation of W. J. Kerr as tho head ot the Agricultural College. That's why the democratic organ publishes the statement "A vote for the republican repub-lican ticket is a votcagalnstthe Ag-rlcultural Ag-rlcultural College." The Journal assumes as-sumes (and we aie not prepared to say wronglj) that certain republican politicians poli-ticians desire, for various reasons, to see President Kerr lemovcd from the Institution, it then assumes, and vciy wrongly, that all the republican legislative nominees arc in harmony with tho desire of the politicians who arc after tho president's head. The Journal then further assumes that President Kerr Is TIIEcollego itself, hence Its statement: "A vote for the republican ticket is a vote against the college." Wliile Tun IlKfunuoAMs unalterably unalter-ably opposed to the political domination domina-tion of the college or any other school, and feels kindly to Pros. Kerr, it does not icgaid him as the school Itself, and wc can conceive that his absence from the institution need not result In Its downfall. We can even give some men credit for an honest belief that Ins release would be to the advantage ad-vantage of the school Itself. All the opposition to the President and the present method of conducting- the school can not be classed as dishonest, nor can It be said that all the friend-ship friend-ship for President Kerr j, wholly devoid de-void of political feeling and other Influences In-fluences extraneous to knowledge of, sympathy with and confidence In him and his methods. however, Tin'. IlKi'uiiucA.N can not conceive that President Kerr Is an Is-sue Is-sue at this time. Though every man on the republican ticket were pledged as against Piesldont Kerr, a voic for that ticket would .not mean a vote against the Agricultural College. Though Congressman IIowc'l, and the entire legislative ticket weie pledged as In favor of political domination of tho school so far as the president and the college curriculum Is concerned, a vote for tho republican ticket would not mean a vote against the college that is, hi the sense of favoring Its removal. re-moval. The democratic organ Is confused and befuddled. The Idea that the republican re-publican ticket Is against the college is so abstircd as to be ridiculous Republicans Re-publicans in the county aie for the college, they couldn't afford to be otherwise. '1 he republican legislative nominees are for the college, and have done good work for it In the past. Ecn though these nominees were against the college, as party men they could not at this time afford to do aught but work stienuously for the college. Though the machine -Sinoot, Cutler, Howell, Spry, any and all aro against tho college tliey cannot afford at this time to do aught but faor the college. HutTiiK llKi'UHLicAN contend that "the machine" Instead of seeking to accomplish the removal of tho collcgo or its destruction In any way has been the one foice that has saved It. The greatest forces wot king against tho college today afe the University Alum-nl Alum-nl and such democials as W. II. King, Itlchard W. Young, ilcnnlon, W. W. Hlter, together with the moral support sup-port of Movie, Van Cott and other leading sons of democracy. The public should not be misled by Democratic sophistry. The republican legislative nominees aro are in a position posi-tion to be of more service to Agricultural Agricult-ural College Interests than any number num-ber of democrats that could be sent to the state legislature from Cache county, coun-ty, or the state at large tills In lino with statements made In the democratic demo-cratic organ. According to that publication, democracy de-mocracy is at least four million times more friendly to thccollcgo than Is republicanism. re-publicanism. Yet at a state conven tion of these exceedingly warm friends, tho democratic legislative nominees from the county were unable to get Into the state platform any expression friendly to the college. If the legislature were wholly democratic demo-cratic could the distinguished democratic demo-cratic bunch from Lacho get more than they got at the convention? If tho legislature is made up largely of republicans and Americans what could tho (democratic bunch hope to KctV Republicans among icpubllcans would be ablo to accomplish lu an hour what democracy could not accomplish ac-complish In a month. |
