Show Calvin Smith Is Drowned Logan Boy Goes Down While in Swimming. John Calvin Smith, aged eighteen eigh-teen years, a son of Joseph and Mary Smith ofLogan, was drowned drown-ed in a largo spring at the northern north-ern end of this city Sunday afternoon after-noon about four o'clock. Tho young man and other boys were in swimming, and Smith had made several trips across tho spring. The other boys saw him sink and were well nigh terror stricken when he failed to rise to the surface. Assistanco was called call-ed for but efforts to recover tho body wcro unavailing for quite a time. Finally Ben Lundburg brought the unfortunate young man to the surface and tho body was immidately conveyed to the Lindquist .undertaking parlors. There is some doubt as to what caused young Smith to sink. Simo consider it was an attack of heart failure, the boy having been left, with a weak heart from a case of typhoid. Others think he must have been stricken with cramps, while it is again suggested suggest-ed that he was caught in tho weeds with which the spring is filled. The funeral services will be held in the fifth ward meeting house today at 2 o'clock. The remains re-mains may be viewed from 10 to 12" a. m. attho family residence. |
