Show Prospect for Coal Better Committee Has Been and Still Is Hustling. Mayor Robinson, Pres. M. J. J. Ballard, Senator Bullen and Joseph E. Cordon left Thursday for Diamondville and Kemmerer, Wyoming, to make arrangements for coal for Cache Valley, if it is possible. These gentlemen went prepared to offer practically anything any-thing demanded money or'men. The claim having been made that coal can not be furnished because miners can not bo secured, these Cache valley representatives will offer to furnish the men if they can get the coal they will mine. The situation here, and prospects for tho future, make strenuous action necessary and it is certain that the Cache Commercial Club and City are doing all that is possible to secure the coal needed for this winter. In their' recent visit to Salt Lake City this committee held a number of seances with the 0. S. L. and Rio Grande officials, and from the former secured a reduction reduc-tion of $1.20 a ton on the freight rate between Ogden and Cache Valley. That means that if coal can be secured over the D. & It. G. delivered at Ogden, it can be brought here for $1.00 a ton in stead of the $2.20 charged heretofore. here-tofore. This is a great concession and a splendid piece of work on the part of the committee. From the coal companies it was impossible to get much definite information. However, arrangements arrange-ments for 5,000 tons was made with an independent mine at Helper. Hel-per. It is also said that one of this city's concerns has a contract for 5,000 tons with another independent in-dependent company. 10,000 tons is about one-third of tho amount necessary for Cache Valley during dur-ing the next year, hence tho tall hustling to. get in touch with more fuel. It is to be hoped that tho committee com-mittee will meet with success on the present trip. |
