B The Drlgham Young College opened B on Tuesday of last week with a fair B registration for ' the first day 140 B compared with 102 of the year before. At the end of the week about 250 had H registered and paid their fees and a total of 300 had made application. Pres. Llnford Is highly pleased, looks forward to a registration of 450 by B October 1st, ana a very t successful R year. It Is especially j gratifying that B old students are returning, and It now B seems a certainty that there will be a M degree class of not less than twelve, B and a high school class of forty or B fifty. B Tqe B. Y. 0. Is belter than ever HI equipped for successful work, the I Mechanic A rts.Twmestlo Science, and B Art departments being newly equipped and now that that the Nlbley hall Is I progressing nicely, the management I would be genuinely happy If a first class Coach in athletics could be se- sured. It was expected that a, mate -of Coaon Walker, of the A. 0., would be m here ere this, but there has been some R sort of tnlsconnectlon not wholly un- Ijl derstood here. Whether or not this U particular coach is secured.a first-class H man will be rounded upin the short' II est possible time. Pres. Llnford and K the athletic committee are deter- I ... mined to have not only a champion- I fj ship basketball team but a good foot- ball and track team and are ready to I spend the money If they can find the j man. The prospects for a first-class ' basketball team Is fine, practically all I the old men having returned. Speaking of the' Mechanic Arts building, It is now somewhat of a pleasure to look in there. This splendid splen-did structures has been put Into first-class first-class order and with Its calsomtne, paint, and nicely tit ted, well-lighted rooms Is indeed a thing of beauty. The basement Is devoted to forges, first .floor to wood waruers, second floor to the Domestic Arts and Science - and the upper story to Art and Music. A reception room on the second floor, furnished by twenty or thirty-ladles thirty-ladles of Logan, Is very attractive. This room Is done In the tapestry-panel tapestry-panel style and furnished with mission furniture, the cost being (200. It Is restful In appearance, thoroughly Inviting In-viting and for its purpose Is a gem that Is undoubtedly appreciated. The Domestlo Science room has two very fine kitchens, fitted with big ranges, tables, and all the paraphernalia parapher-nalia necessary to successful work. 1 The department will bo presided over by Miss Jean Cox, who heretofore has t been Instructor at the deaf mute school In Ogden. She secured her education In Philadelphia and Is said to be very proficient. A dining room on the second floor Is the pride of all just at present, and i not without good reason. This is tho J large room at the southwest corner and It has been painted and fitted in such perfect taste that It Is Indeed very attractive. The floor Is Imitation hardwood, wall-panellngs the same -.and furnishings mission style. Tho to 4B walls are tinted green, bnd tho win dow shades, aro green with delicate lace curtains' added for home-like effect. The grand result Is highly satisfactory and all concerned have ' good reason to feel very pleased, It was here on Friday evening that Pres and Mrs. Llnford entertained the faculty and a few friends In a "get acquainted" aitalr. All the way 'round, everything looks good at tho 1). Y, 0., and tho probability of an excellent increase in attendance Is as gratifying to the townspeople as to the college authorities. |
