Show -' C0 long as we love we serve; so fong a we are loved I would almost say that we are indispensable; and no man is useless while he has a friend. ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON. Young college should have undisputed undis-puted sway in this Held; even the lato Apostle Merrill is credited by a local "autl"-agltator with saying In his hearing that the A. C. buildings were desired and would eventually bo secured se-cured for the use of tho Hrigham Young college; but despite all this, the writer has never taken stock In the idea that "tho church" as a combination com-bination has designs unfavorable to the college. So far as the Hrigham Young college Is concerned, Its present site and plant Is much more advantageous than that of the A. C, from every practical point of view. The plant embraces a scries of buildings and grounds that arc very spacious at present and arc being added ad-ded to at a rate that in tho very shortest short-est time will place It beyond any need, even any desire. A three-story structure struc-ture dedicated last year, another to be built this year and' a large central building for which plans aro drawn, added to tho two splendid structures already there, placo the Hrigham one of Its three big schools Into such an Institution, a matter that would be comparatively inexpensive and fully as satisfactory so far as results aro concerned. This plan has been hinted at. Observation leads us to believe that the interests making a light for consolidation con-solidation of the schools or boards are many and varied. There is a certain amount of honest belief that the schools united under ono board or on ono site would result In a saving and to tho betterment of both schools. Hut this clement Is not the ono making mak-ing the light. The big light comes from University adherents desiring a greater University at any cost to other Institutions; from politicians who hope to accomplish certain designs, and from others who desire to even up certain cer-tain scores chalked against tho present president of the Agricultural college; and from Individual presidents and professors, who for one reason or another an-other have- been rollevcd from a voice In the management of tho big schoo', |
