Show DEATH OF JOHN SQUIRES. : John Squires.a well-known Utah pioneer, died at his residence. 754 East Sixth South 1 street at 8:30 o'clock last night of general ; debility, incident to old age. He was born , I at Welling, Hertfordshire. England. Dec. 1 23. 1810. and lacked but one month and ten Jays of completing his eighty-tint year. He I joined the Mormon church in eirly man-1 man-1 hood, and came to Utah in 1853. He has I since that time resided continuously in Salt 1 ! Lake except when on a two years' mission I to his native country To Mr. Squires be- j longed the distinction of being the first 1 I pioneer barber of Utah. He was Brigham I Young's barber and faithful attendant, and , always accompanied thePresidentlon his trips to different parts of the state. The deceased , I was a man of unusual vigor, nd worked at his trade for sixty-five years, beginning at 'the age of 13 years, and continuing until three years ago. Mr. Squires had 4 wives one of whom survives him. and he is the father of thirty-three children, twenty-two of whom are living. He bas been gradually gradual-ly failing for six months, and for the past week death has been expected at any hour. He had a wide circle of friends, and was known throughout the state. Herald. |
