',30. -a' gas gusher, which throws water and dirt to a height of nearly 200: feet, is the latest sensation here, i and the town is much excited in j consequence. The gas was j struck yesterday at a depth of 200 feet, and the well was- still spouting with great force at a late hour tonight. The discovery was made on the ranch of John Craghead, two miles northwest of town, J. J. Byington, representing V. M. Mills of Osawotomie, Kan. The presence of the gas cou'd be detested de-tested easily by the smell, but it was impossible to get to the stream, owing to the downpour of water and rocks . The stream rose to a height of 175 feet and was visible from Brigham. By 8 o'clock it had abated somewhat, but was still spouting with much force. The stream was six in- j - " ches in diameter at the montV of - fnehore, but spread out to a width of twelve or fifteen feet at the top - Tt is expected that the gusher will sub.-ide in a few days an 1 a pipe will then be sunk vwith a large incasing pipe to protect the sides of the hole from caving in.
