Maione, a preacher for a sect known as 'Sanctified People," and Constable W. J. Moneynoon were snot and killed by a mob Sunday night at Wardell, near Caruthersville, Mo, Ma- -lone had been proselyting n this coun- ' ty for severaL months and much feeling feel-ing had been aroused against him. A woman- named Mrs. Frill having left her .husband, caused much agtta-tion agtta-tion recently 'by living with Maione, who had left his own wife, Mrs. Alice Maione. The preacher's wife objected vigorously to this arrangement, and Maione declared her insane-and caused her to be detained in jail pending an Inquiry. This acton aroused the citizens to a frenzy and a warrant was issued against Maione and Mrs.' Frill, on the charge of unlawfully living together. Constable Moneyhoon Sunday night arrested both, and because of the lateness late-ness of the hour decided not to take them to Caruthersville until-. morning, but Instead took his prisoners to his own house for the night. Shortly after midnight there, was a knock at the front door and Moneyhoon Money-hoon opened the door. He' was shot ,, dead In the doorway.',. A mob streamed Into the house and " seized Maione, dragging him out into the darkness.-, , Mrs. Frill frantically begged that no 'harm be done to him, but she. was,; roughly pushed inside the house and 1 the mob departed. . .
