Show FRENCH SQUADRON SAILS x FOR TURKISH PORT. Admiral Calilard's .Orders Ar to Force Turkey to Pay French Claims or Seize a Customs House and Collect Them. The entire French Mediterranean squadron sailed from Toulon, France, Tuesday, with destination for some port in the Turkish empire. While one division put in at Salins d'Hieres, another, composed of three battleships and two cruisers, under the command of Admiral Caillard, proceeded pro-ceeded to the Levant. Two thousand troops will be added to this force. Admiral Caillard's orders are that if complete satisfaction is not given by the Ottoman government to all the claims of France, he will seize the cue-torn cue-torn house of the port nearest the squadron. It is believed his destination ia the island of Mitylene or Salonica. The island commands the entrance to the Dardanelles and the Gulf of Smyrna. |
