Show French Missionaries Looted Chinese. Paris papers publish extracts of the confidential report of General Voyron, which the government refused to communicate com-municate to the chamber of deputies last week, during the discussion of the bill authorizing a loan to reimburse the treasury for the outlay in the Chinese Chi-nese expedition. According to these extracts French missionaries looted the palace of Prince Li, securing an important sum in silver sil-ver bars. They appear to have been assisted by French soldiers and sailors whom" they rewarded with checks amounting to 50,000 francs, which General Gen-eral Frey subsequently forced the men to returu to the missionaries. |
