Show NINE DEAD, TWENTY INJURED: Outcome of Race Riots in Evansville, Indiana. After the recent riot at Evansville, Ind., the inhabitants are obeying the orders of the mayor and the people are keeping off the streets. There are nine dead, one dying, three others fatally fa-tally hurt and twenty-one more or less injured as a result of the encounter with the militiamen. Martial law will not be declared until there arises additional ad-ditional trouble. The negro fire company has left the city under advice of the mayor, and their places in the department have been filled with white men. The negroes ne-groes had become so frightened that they were regarded as unfitted to perform per-form their duties and were relieved from duty at their own request. |
