The engagement of Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, the second living son of the late Cornelius anderoilt, ano .miss Klsie French, the daughter of Mrs. ' Frances Ormond French, was announced an-nounced at New York the ether day. Miss Elsie French and her mother and Mr. Vanderbilt are in London. The announcement was made to a few relatives rela-tives and friends. The engagement was not a surprise. It was also .earned at Newport that Mr. Vanderbilt and Miss French will be married there in September at Trinity church, and tlie wedding will be followed by a small reception re-ception at Harbor View, the villa o Mrs. French. Mr. Vanderbilt will sail at an early day from Kngiand for a brief stay in this country.
