West, who was reported re-ported In n critical condition of health in laBt week'u issue, died Friday Fri-day night, May 8, nt tho homo of his niece, Mrs. Jumca Taylor. Fuucral services were held in the First Ward chapel Monday, May 11, Ulshop, Jainos T. Gardner presiding. Appropriate remarks woro made by several speakers. Music was furnished fur-nished by tho First Ward choir. The following 1b a short biography of Mr, West's life, read at tho funeral services: James O. Wcat was born July i, 183G, In Knglund. Ho Was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of l.utter-Day Saints at Kast Dean, England, Eng-land, about March 1, 1S0C, by K. Johu .ook. lie emigrated to New York, .May 1, 1SC8, and waB there ordained n priest by Elder Scarlo. Ho came to dait Lake City, July 18, 1871, receiving receiv-ing his endowments in tho Tcmplo tho same year. On April 22, 1873, ho had sealed to him Mercy C. West and tmnia u. west, inrougn nis roith-fulness roith-fulness and integrity he was promoted promot-ed from the lesser to tho higher degree de-gree In the priesthood ot God. He went on u mission to tho Indian Territory Ter-ritory In 1885, laboring there about bovou mouths, and through sickness he was honorably released by Prcslr dent Johu Taylor to return home. Wherever ho lias lived ho has always been a zealous zeal-ous and faithful promoter of the cause of Christ, never being ashamed of tho Gospel and ever ready to bear his testimony ot the Divine mission ot Jesus Christ and tho Prophet, .Joseph Smith. Brother West'a record speaks for Itself It Is now closed on earth. According to his financial condition ho has been a liberal douator to temples, tem-ples, tnbornacles, meeting houses and the various quorums to which ho has been authorized. Aftor a long, useful, studious and progressive life, Urothor West passed nwoy, May 8, 1914, to enjoy the delicious de-licious fruits of his honest labors and it well spent life. |
