On tho last ballot tho voto stood: McCunc, 17; King, 14; Powers, 0; Cannon, 7; Reed Smoot, 13; George Sutherland, 3. Senator Robison was absent. During tho day, J. 0. Hammond and Jacob Johnson wcro jlvon tho complimentary votes of the Republican contingent Senator Pccry, who has been voting for Ncbckor, yesterday switched to Powers. Only ono bill wn Introduced In tho cnutc. It being senate bill No. o, to amend section 378 of the Revised Statutes of Utah. 18D8, relating to bank reserves and liabilities. Oovcrnor Wells has signed house bill No. 10, appropriating 825,000 for tho regular and contingent expenses of tha leglslaturo. Salt Lako City, Jan. 22.--Slx ballots wcro taken yesterday for senator. Salisbury, Zone and Sutherland received the Republican votes at different times during the day. Tho Powers men switched to the support of King. In tho house three bills were Introduced, Intro-duced, viz.: Relating to election of county coun-ty commissioners; relating to duties of secretary of stato und county clerks In submitting proposed constitutional amendments; relating to duties of county recorder. Representative Smith of Wuber, ottered ot-tered a resolution proposing to submit to tho electors at tho next general llectlon u form of amendment to tho itato constitution, providing for direct legislation by tho people. A bill was passed carrying an emergency appropriation, appro-priation, and Welch's railroad bill was killed. Salt Lako City, Jan. 27. Four ballots bal-lots wero taken j'cstcrday, with tho result that McCune camo within six votes of election. On tho fourth ballot bal-lot the vote stood: McCunc, 20; King, 14; Camion, 7; McCornlck, 13; Nobekcr, 1; Sutherland, 1; absent, 1. Yesterdays session of tha senate lasted less than ten minutes, Houso bill No. 30 passed its first reading. It provides for an appropriation of 320,-000 320,-000 for tho payment of tho stato's half of the salaries of comity attornoys, treasurers and assessors and their assistants as-sistants and deputies for tho last quarter quar-ter of tho year 1898. In tho house one bill was passed, tho "shecp-steallug" bill, only to bo confronted con-fronted with a notice of intention to move for reconsideration, and another, to readjust the salaries of the employes em-ployes of tho legislature, was fought through almost to passage, but war laid on tha table. |
