Show ! '! t More Beets , '( TIad tho week's rain come a month i ' i. 'earlier it would have increased tho plant- J i - ing of beets on tho Chino ranch .1000 i acres. As it is. it has been a glorious ' rain, a blessing to the countrv, and of ' immonso benefit to our agricultural in- X " " teresls. ,A number of fields of beets havo been planted this week on tho strength of tin rain, and In many other fields in wnich tho wed is lying dormant, tho green rows of young beots aro already seen. It is estimated that this rain will increase in-crease tho acres of good stand by 000, and the total yield on tho Chino ranch by 10,000 tons. This incrcna comes not only from tho new planting, but fio'ii every acre already planted. On a large acreage considered doubtful of any ciop at all, a good crop is now assured, and on a ery large part of tho acreage planted tho yield will bo doubled. There aro scarcely any fields on which the yield will not be increased by this rain. The ground is well soaked, and the cloudy, damp weather sinco tho raic has caused the moisture to go down deeper, and there has been little or no loss by evaporation. AM in all. tho ptospect or a beet crop ha improved nearly CO per cent in tho past six days. Chino Champion. |
