Show B Call a Public Meeting, fl On Thursday the school teach- B ) ers sent out invitations to the par- fl ents of the children to meet them H at the centra school house on H Friday. At the time appointed H , about 150 gathered to hear what H subject the teachers had to lay H before them. The subject to be H presented was the supplying of H school books for the children, out H of the taxes, or in other words B for the trustees to purchase books B for the schools thus making them B free the same as the schools are B to all children of school age, B The subject was discussed at B some length pro and con; those who were not in tavor showed B that to purchase books out of the B taxes placed a burden upon those B .who had in some instances cd- B ucated theu childaen and had now H advanced , in years, also that it fl would bear heavily upon those H persons and institutions that are B. lhe possessers of a large amount B of means. Those in favor show- B there are a number of poor peo- H pie who are not able to purchase H books for their children and this H fact is very anoying to "both child H and teacher. This is a very im- H portant subject and therefore H ought to be well investigated, and H to give all tax payers an opport- H unity to be heard on it. A pub- B lie meeting should be called by B the board of trustees. The not- B ice should set forth the object of B the meeting so that all may un- B derstand it. B We will say, our columns are B open to all interested in this sub- B ject, whether for or against it. hhv |
