Show H Prohibition. H Editor Banner: I seo by your most welcome visitor, tlio Ba'nnkk, that some B of Labi's most worthy citizens nro in favor of strictly prohibition for Lohi H This is u move in the right direction m and every well wisher for Utnh's future H destiny would say so if they sould see B the deplorable condition which exists in B England today through the excessive M use of intoxicating liquors. "But," H say's one, ''they should not usn them to B oxcl'ss; we don't." I want to say to H thorn, that thoso who never touch B it'iiver use it to excess. It is those B that dabble witii it that make the B drunkurds. "But," suys one, "the K licenso helps to pay our expenses." H That is what the people of Oldlnun H tlibught many years ago, but they do B not think so today. But the drunkards H nro in the majority today and they cun-H cun-H not get the license reyoked. A great H many landowners wilt not allow it to bo H sold on their land so they are able to H check it a little in tome parts of town. H One of them who is acquainted with the H exponses of the town told mo tho other B day that tho sale of liquor increased the H. taxes because it took mors polic and B caused more jail birds and more poor to h mKc care ot with less property to B tax, for those that are drunkhurds don't B- have much taxablo property and it is B hard to get tho taxes out of a man who B drinks to excess. You can see by carc- B ful llguring that the labor classed are H tho losers in the end financially to any B. nothing of what our fathers and mothers H nro doing in placing theso things before B our children. We certainly will be held B responsible, more or less, and if there B -was nothing but this life Wo would be B -well paid for putting this traffic down H while we can nud not let it grow until H wo get like England and can not stop it. H It is tho curso ol this country as it is B tho root of most evil. Well may the B people turn out in mass, irrespective of B party lines, and vote for men for the B next Oity Council that are strictly H prohibitionists and will pledge them- H selves to put down the liquor traffic in B Lehi. May this bo the result is the B wish of one of Lehi's sincere well-wishers B -for her future destiny. H I am enjoying n.y labors aa a feeble H spreader 01' truth in this part of God's H vineyard, and see that there is a great B deal for the young men of Utah to do as B thereare thousands wiio have not heard H the Gospel oL Jesus Christ yet. As B .some of the prejudice is being removed B the Elders' are able to bring the Gospel B bofore the people and some have tho B courage to come out and accept it. B Murk Austin. B (To be continued.) |
