Show Election Law, 'Senate bill No. 118 This is the general ) election law. It includes the registrr.- 't, ' tion and Australian ballot law. Tiie county canvass must bo made or com- !l inonced on- Monday following election J -day, and the State canvass on the fourth I Holiday in November after tho day of I -election. City elections for municipal olllcers shall occur on tho Tuesday iollowing tho first Monday in November, 1807, and biennially theieafter, oil'uials j to take oflico on tho llrst Monday in January following their election. In other icspects the law is about tho same as that of 1S00, except that the provision requiring candidates to iilo statements of their expenses is stricken from the chapter on election offenses, Tho ballot piovision has been changed in m any respects. As it now utands it provides for samples as woll as official ballots to bo prepared by tho County Oleiks, and instruction cards giving ,, directions how to vote. Instead of li ' m placing the names of candidates on the , ballot in alphabetical order, each paity ticket is to bo pointed theioou in a seperate column, with heavy parallel lines .between, and the paity emblem- shall go at the top of such columns. Each of these co.iunns shall be called a ticket, and shall bo arranged on the ballot in the order decided on by the authorities charged with the printing thereof. The pnrty name or title must be In capital letters not less than one-fourth one-fourth of an inch in heighth, and immediately imme-diately below shall bo printed a ciicle one-half inch in diameter, tho top of which must be at least two inches below be-low the perforated line. The names ae arranged in lines with 'i square at the right for the X mark. At the right of tho ballot there must be left a blank space long enough to contain a many' written names of candidate!) as theie are offices to be voted for, in which ticket must be printed the names of tiie oillces. Tho extreme top part of the ticket shall bo a stub, divided from the bfihot bya perforata! line. The stub is to contain the number of the baJlot. Party watchers at tliH polls aie limited to one for each of the parties which cast the largest and next largest vote at the i preceeding election. A straight party ticket may ,be voted by putting a mark in the circle at the top or by marking after the name of each candidate, or in both ways. A straight ticket, all but one or two names, may bo voted by , putting thomark in tho circle and draw- ' ing a line through such name or names. J Tho voter may also insert in writing in i the proper blank space the name of any i person for whom he desires to vote, and i ho shall be deemed to "have voted for such person whether or not ho puts a mark nfter the name. When more than one circle is marked the ballot shall be rejected. |
