Lelong, at the meeting oi H ihe State Horticultural society of Culi- H fornla, is reported to have stated as fol- m "In the past two years enormous H quantities of paris green have been B nold to growers, much of- which was H of very inferior quality. The results H Avere equally aq poor, and many grow- BBB rs have thus become prejudiced against H , its use. Samples of paris green have H Ijeen examined with astonishing results. H Several samples, although of nearly the fl came shade of color as the pure paris H green, wt-re found to be a mixture of H Prussian blue and chrome yellow, clay H und chalk. Others were 1ound to con- M tain no r.rseuious hold. In many cases H the. fault lies with the fruit growers H themselves, for wo have continually ad- H ' vised them to use the pure article, which H casta 20 cents per jiouncl. This advice H has been disregarded to n considerable H , extent end the cheapest grades have H ' been p.rchasetl,,wilh little or no re- H suits, rt Avas only last week thnt an es- H tensive apple grower visited several H stores in quest of paris green, refused H the pure at 20 cente, and had n large H quantity shipped to him nt 4 cent per H pound. You can therefore imagine the H results tie will have." Pacific Rural H PreBs. |
