It is under n thin crust through which flames burnt forth and light up tho town at night, throwing out gases nnd Bending forth unearthly noise, which strike horror to hearts of the inhabitants. It has been burning sincti last April, havinghoaiistnrtedby a groat conflagration conflagra-tion then. All efforts to extinguish it havo been unavailing and it is a constant con-stant source of alarm. Tho other day a workman passing fell into the bed and beforo ho could bo extricated wan asphyxiated and his body nearly binned to a crisp.
