Show Apple Tree Blight. X Pl .w.'ek of. Republlo County. Kas., wrltri: "My apple trees have made an excellent early growth, but omethlng haii bllKhted all tho new growth on th ends of the limbs and thoy now look a.1 Jf nro had scorched them. Can you telj mo what Is tho trouble and remedyr" In reply to tho Inquiry mado by yout subscriber, would Bay that his nppl troos aro undoubtedly affected with tho bacterial dlscaso known as peat blight This is my opinion, simply formed from tho meager information which ho gives. To positively know, It would bo necessary to exaraino tha tree or tho affected part But wo feel suro that it Is "blight" Thoro is no known remody whoroby tho dlseaso can bo hold In check or killed by means of suravlnir. It can ho held In check to considerable degree by removing re-moving tbo dlsoasod twigs or branches. Tho cut should bo mado from four to six inches below tho point whoro tho bark Is brown and dead. Tho branches thus romoved should bo burned, thus lessening tho danger of further spread of tho disease. Tbo dlseaso Is moro likely to attack trees that nro succulent nnd growing rapidly. rapid-ly. Thus conditions of soil or core which would produco less rapid and moro hardened wood growth would tend to mako tho troq moro resistant and loss suscoptlblo to becoming diseased. dis-eased. A rapid, luxuriant growth favors tho dlscaso, thorcforo a rich soil, plenty or molsturo nnd continued cultivation favor it. The affected branches should bo romoved with caro and burned. Secondly, cultural moth-ods moth-ods should bo adopted whereby a moro resistant treo may bo producod." ttobt F. Eastman, Asst.
