Show wa edito rial by ceugene HE II 11 eugene ugene roberts mr lr and mrs kanab and mr and mrs fredonia Fredon Fre donla laj we have noticed under thy tbt legal notices of this paper that a notice ot hearing in III case number iber before the public service commission that authority has leen 10 n asked by the southern utah power co to increase its rates and to equalize and simplify its rate schedules this hearing Is to he be held at cedar city wednesday april 30 1947 at 10 A at we were wondering how an increase lit in rates could equalize and simplify the rate schedules and with whom would said rate increase be equalized would it be equal with the rates of ogden logan provo st george and other cities in this state 0 or r would it be considerably higher y it has conic come to our attention that the kanab rates are just about as high as tiny any rates in the state ad for that I 1 matter those of fredonia Fre donla at present tile tho southern utah power co is installing on an old diesel plant that was fori formerly used in codar city cedar city received a new plant and apparently with added u use 11 a of electricity the southern utah power co under its new how manage merit ment la Is not no t flatla fled with its present rate structure the kane i county standard standa rd does not feel that it the southern utah power la Is justified in id asking for a rate increase they should bo be stopped slopped from fram obtaining said increase but since the war has ended many more appliances have been bought and more would S b bought andt and considerably more el cl used in this locality I 1 it the power company would allow the people to use more power to operate the appliances which the people desire to buy we foci that a raise in III rat rate 0 Is not conducive to greater use of electric power but restricts its use I 1 have not heard of any outstanding raises being given to the employees for southern utah power co since the now new management haa taken over and we feet feel that a committee from ka nab and fredonia Fre donla shoud be on hand to ascertain the real necessity for an increase in iii rates some months ago information was rel received elved by the standard to the 1 1 ernect erie ct that the rate would be adjusted downward with new equipment how over ever now new equipment was waa not rea ref olde f bein being g installed in dauab a anani n d ain I 1 steab atea of a revision aown downward ward it appears there Is an attempt to revise said rates upward what should the people or this community do with respect to this hearing i P i i i i i i i i i |
