Show MEDICAL FACULTY FACU L TY ENTERTAINS SALT LAKE MEDICAL SOCIETY Professors Read Extensive Papers Papers Papers Pa Pa- pers pers on Professional Subjects Monday 1 evening March 1 the University entertained the members and friends of the Salt Lake Medical Society in the Museum building Professor Snow delivered the tho- first paper of the evening on the subject The Qualities and Characteristics s of Jf Cytoplasm His paper dealt with the study of the cell in life and the actions and qualities of the different stains used in study His line of research was illustrated with lantern lantern lantern lan lan- tern slides slides from drawings bV liy himself and nd Dr Cowley of the University of of Chicago The next speaker was Dr Vorhies who gave a brief account of I his trip east and the attitude e of the State Board in regard to the present medical school system Mr Mattill 1 gave a very interesting account of Some Recent Advances in Metabolism Metabolism- I He dealt I lt mainly i y with absorbing power of the blood in regard to the different nitrogen compound compound compound com com- pound and in closing stated that A Anew Anew Anew new field of research is now open for working out a clinical method for determination determination determination de de- termination of nitrogen in the blood as uric acid urea and protein free nitrogen The fourth paper of the evening was given by Dr Fisher on Digitalis The main point emphasized ed was that Digitalis is not a stimulant but is a aheart aheart aheart heart tonic toni The last paper of the evening was wasby wasby wasby by Dr Byrnes who gave some interesting interesting interesting interest interest- ing data on two cases of tubercular spinal meningitis that he treated while in a sanitarium in Cali California ornia One of the very interesting events of the evening was the demonstration of the use and possibilities of the lantern by Dr Vorhies After the meeting cigars were passed and everyone present voted the evening evening evening event even even- t ing very profitably spent spent- i |
