Show prizes offered to country publishers during the next three weeks tile the member publishers ot of the utah stute state press iresa association will enter into a contest from which it la Is expected some concrete ideas on 4 highway safety will result k avery citizen la in every community tho throughout the united states holds 0 a high interest lit in what should and could be done to curtail auto accidents and accident fatalities and utah publishers are expected to advance some lines of action which will serve to that end tile the contest Is being held lit in cooperation with tile the safety move ment now being carried on and the winning articles will be published in member newspapers throughout the state three prizes are being offered and the contest oil Is open to all member papers in utah other actions taken at a recent meeting of the executive committee of the press association include a request for an opinion from attorney general joseph chez on the publishing of financial statements by counties and school boards heretofore here to fore the law governing this phase of governmental administration has been a thorn in the side of country publishers inthis 11 state as it has been necessary for them to fo fight tile the battle practically alone if the was was enforced in the various counties and school districts of the state in several cases there has hai been lettla trouble with those in office but in many instances it has been necessary for the publisher to file suit in order to induce those in office to live up to the law and furnish the taxpayer with the information it formation to which he has a perfect right I 1 up to the present pre time it has been necessary for publishers in the aya barlous counties td W act upon JL io af flit A U oe ysla F riville clice lia and it is I 1 hoped that tin an opinion from the attorney general will serve to clarify the of the law with the publishers as well dwell its as with those serving ili the various offices cew several law jaw suits have resulted from claims against county and school board officials and have resulted in a supreme court decision in favor of the law A k suggestion was made during tho session of the executive committee that each member parr paper run an ear on the front page telling of the dates of the utah state pair fair mattare mats Mat dare are being arranged and it itis la expected that every paper belonging to the association will run the ears advertising the fair there will be no charge for this advertising as the country publishers of the state consider it their duty daiy to get back of the state fair board and aid in making this years fair a success |
