Show rate cut ordered by commission the utah public service corn com mission consisting of ward 0 aoi brook president otto A Wl alesley esley commissioner aud and W K X granger commissioner on tuesday ordered substantial rate reductions to users of power furnished by the utah power and light company lit in utah A year and a half ago tile rates of the company were reduced materially by order of the commission at which time all sections ot of the state and par particularly nil all of those parts of the state served by tile the company outside of salt lake city and ogden received major benefits from the reduction the new reduction rp reduction la in rates Is of special benefit to users of 60 kilowatt hours per mouth month or less leas and to the users of power for commercial iner cial lighting purposes particularly small offices and business e ss establishments this of course menus means that rural sections will again recelle substantial benefits tile the total reductions in ili utah to be effected by the order will be approximately to residential users and to users of power for commercial lighting the order Is an all outgrowth of a letter addressed to the company july 18 1039 and of subsequent studies and conferences with officials of the compani company the order older fro provides vides that the present minimum rate of DO 00 cents ier month for the first 11 kilowatt hours shall be reduced from 5 cents to A 1 cents per kilowatt hour on the average this will gle give to consumers who use less than GO CO kilowatt hours per mouth month it approximately 20 25 per cent more kilowatt hours houis for the price formerly paid lor for example under the old schedule would buy 13 kilowatt hours and under ibe the new schedule will buy 10 kilowatt hours under the old schedule siao 1 0 would buy 23 kilowatt hours lind and under the new schedule will buy 29 kilowatt hours under the old ault would buy 33 kilowatt hours and under the new schedule will buy 4 kilowatt hours users of power tor for commercial purposes will receive benefits comparable to time those heretofore set get I 1 forth foith for residential users I 1 the people of the city of coq boub were given special consideration by tit alie commission in that the their r minimum rate was reduced fr from om to per month and t the it e rates applying to general use were reduced to the point that practically nil all users of power for atal purposes ili hi that city will find their monthly bills lower by approximately 37 per cent the commission in ili its order stilted stated the reductions applicable to residential and farm service those made in 1938 have bave uc tic corbing the gross amount of tho the rate per customer and in fit the total revenues of the company from these classifications this ilus information would sustain the commission in its opinion that further reductions duct ions ious can now be made to the benefit of all concerned studies made by the company under the direction of the commission indicate that homes will benefit from the reduction in addition to the commercial users the company pas has indicated that tho the commissions order will be e compiled with and that new felled schedules effective on all billings made af after ter september 1 I 1930 will be filed immediately |
