Show DRIVE A SAVE SAFE OAR CAR nearly 75 per cent of motor cars on roads today have defects which increase hazards of driving according to figures of 42 state motor vehicle inspection campaigns covering cars analyzed by the national bureau of casualty and surety underwriters in explaining the survey john J hall director of the street and highway safety division of the national bureau points out that no structural defects were ware discovered in the cars but that three fourths were found lacking either in adequate brakes lights horns steering mechanism windshield wipers rear vision mirrors or safe tires worst of all was the condition of brakes nearly 40 per cent being unsafe obviously the condition calls for correction no matter how safely a motorist drives it his brakes fall if his vision is obscured it if his lights do not show we the road ahead lie he is exposed to an accident every time lie he operates his car it is not wise to belittle any of the hazards involved it is not wise to he belittle little any of the ces a defective windshield wiper can be just as dangerous as wheel drivers who have formed a habit of overhauling their automobiles periodically are rarely cespon responsible sible for accidents said mr hall careless drivers on the other hand often pay a price for neglect that would meet necessary repair bills many times over and if a few judgments are rendered them the bill will total price of several good automobiles some states have found that the best method of insuring safe automobile mechanical condition Is by the means of compulsory inspection laws they are supported in their view by safety organizations of nationwide reputation such laws have operated not only to improve individual car safety but to increase employment and to stimulate business in any event the moral of this story is drive a safe car |
