Show STAKE QUARTERLY conference HELD orderville AT OR DERVILLE quarterly conference colvon convened ea at Or derville last saturday and sunday may 20 and 21 apostle stephen L richards accompanied by ills his ills his brother claude richards and wife were in attend ance A good representation of people from the entire stake was present the conference opened with a session for the general public at 8 p in saturday evening sunday morning a regular sun day school session was held under the auspices of the kariam kanab stake officers the afternoon session which began at 2 p in mi was as follows song Order vIlIe choir prayer heber 0 robinson song Or derville choir president heber hebar J meeks who was wag presiding then presented the names of various officers in the church from president heber J grant down through gli the different organizations these officers were sustained by all present the first speaker of the after afternoon nOOR was 1 I 11 II heaton II eaton who stated that the officers officer of auxiliary organizations got a great deal out of tho the convention meetings and said we ve should seek first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and that by not attending to the ordinances of the church we lose the spirit he paid eald that it if people would adhere to the principles of the church blessings would come to them chas R pugh the second speaker said that those who were placed in authority should be exemplary exem play and abild take advantage of opportunities afforded them ile he discussed character at some length stating that character is what we really are not what other people think of us association he said had a great effect on our lives and stated that in these days we needed courage courage to do what Is right and that if we endeavor to live the divine laws we will do that which Is right light and receive blessings benj covington of Or derville then sang a beautiful solo claud richards a member of the general board of the sunday school was present he endorsed the remarks of the former speakers said lie he enjoyed his bis trip to zions cannon yon altur saturday d ay a and pd then exko exhorted ed the people to pay their tithing ile he said if the people of the church would pay their tithing the depression would be over as tar far aa they were concerned ile he stated that we were bankrupt to day because men halve forgotten their god and do not observe his commandments may god help us to be consi stanl to be honest and diligent dell del gent igent in our duties were his closing remarks president meeks then read a report port of tithing of the kanab stake according to the report persons in the stake are paying tithing eleven hundred should be on the tithing list during last year practically were paid in tithing this does not include the cost of improving the church at Or derville of fast offerings in the stake last year showed had been received and that people paid fast offerings in the kanab stake last year president meeks stated that fast offerings should be paid monthly A report of fast offerings in the the addressed the audience he said jle he brought encouraging news from the head of the church president hober heber J grant Is in good health he stated the presidency of the church Is now fully organized and that word has been received recently that the L DS chapel at washington D C Is now almost completed and Is attracting EL a good deal of attention there ile ho said the discouraging news were ware that missionary forces had been reduced some missionary presidents reporting that they have had to withdraw from certain areas there never was a time he said when missionaries have been so well received and that many calls had come to talk over the radio ile he said that help should be given the missionaries who are spreading the gospel carrying it to hungry souls soula who are waiting to receive it lie he stated that aliat economic conditions were some what better that some wool had gone up to 25 cents and advance had been made along other lines ile he stated that the mormon people are going to be better oft off and that he would like to see every woman have all the modern conveniences ven fences but to not net it live beyond our means and go in debt in closing he said 1 I want to be with the people who love god benediction juluas S dalley dailey at C p ni the at 1 I A session of conference was held with president chas heaton of moccasin presiding the speakers of the evening evenin ft were woodruff rust albert anderson andersen and asa judd the mixed chorus from mt bit car inel under the direction of mr salter ising sang two anthems and R ashby sang the solo 1 I am a pit grim mrs ora julander gave a reading little batiste duet misses jorgenson and covington the closing song aras v sung by the audience and leo chamberlain offered the benediction |
