Show free iree public L library i b r A r y needs ne eds assistance Assi stam JUL d L the library board ot of the free frea public library of kanall met last iasi friday evening march 10 at the tha library those present were pres 1 I 0 brown alfa J robinson mayrell and rose 11 II hamblin the annual report ot of the library tor for the year ending december 31 31 1932 was waa read by the librarian submitted to the board tor for approve al and signed the report showed that books were loaned from the library during the year the report also showed that although the tha library had very little finances to run on during the year the circulation was greater in 1932 than at any period in ili thet 18 years ot of its existence due the financial condition i the hoard board has been unable to meet financial obligations as they fell fal due and ans forced to carry these bills over to be paid this year this Is 1 because a good share of the money derived from taxes was in the bank banh at when it closed last year 2 because of unpaid taxes and also 3 be cause the tax levy for library pur poses in kanab la Is inadequate to support a library where the demands are as great as they are in the kanab Ilbra library ry there Is no doubt but what the library should be open tho the five school days ot at the week especially during the months the school la Is in aa ion the rhe board ho however does not even it if the taxes were all paid r get enough money each year to 0 o pay a librarian and replace and buy books which are demanded some books and over magazines were borrowed from the library during january and february of this year ten to 15 books each library day came back to the library in such a condition that they could not be loaned again until repaired many were so BO worn out that they had to be discarded entirely and although the ilia librarian spent many extra hours repairing repaid ng books at the present time there are still many yet to receive attention no books could have been purchased tor for the library last year had it not been for 60 donated by the I ladles idies dies literary league and mrs air marle macdonald these ladles are to be commended tor ar the way vay in which they have rn dered assistance to the library resides besides donations amounting to 35 the ladies literary league has donated from 15 to 18 books a year for or the last two years which they received from the book ot of the tha month club these books have cost the club about 34 a year and are mainly high priced popular novels which the librarian could not have thought ot of including in an order for or books when books are needed so badly for our children the library board has a problem hard to solve at this time when money la Is so scarce |
