Show PROTEST VOICED AGAINST REPEAL OF prohibition ac Vr orus protests were made last week at the state legislature whon when the i judiciary clary committee was waa considering the patterson resolution tor for submission of 0 repeal of the state prohibition amendment when senator patterson the author of the bill said there was no question that the prohibition law could not be enforced and declared that liquor could be obtained in all principal hotels of salt lake city ogden and other cities in the state he was met with vigorous protests from every corner of the senate lounge where the hearing was held rev henry merkel pastor of the M E church stated that prohibition hibi tion had not been sufficiently tested and that it might take 40 years before it could be proven thoroughly successful however the test would be worth trying upon the statement by rep greenhagen Greenh agea that the people had voted wet at the election in november a number of women jumped to their feet and resented the statement mrs airs louise Y robinson president of the national relief society emphatically declared that this was not the case and asserted that the people had voted democratic because they had lost confidence in the republican administration because of the depression mrs robinson headed a large delegation of women who declared themselves against the legislative adoption or of the patterson resolution and stated it if necessary the women would picket the tha borders of the state to keep liquor out of utah the utah women have adopted th the stand ot of the national committee in regard to prohibition which Is no surrender no retreat no compromise the message to the drys ot of the nation as put out by the women committee tor for education against alcohol |
