Show LIBRARY BOARD HOLD MEETING the board ot of trus tru states ot of tho the free public library met on the ot of november 29 at the library to talk over library matters and to have a report of finances given the library has been very short abort ol of funds this year only about having been received from taxes during the entire year this Is not enough to td keep the library going at any time and had bad it not been tor for the outside support given the institution by the ladles literary league and the kindl kind andi assistance of mrs mary myrup and ernest ernese kirby together with the young people ot of knab who put over the benefit play the tion lion would likely have had to close the demand tor for books and magazines has to such a degree that it looks as though something will have to be done to help finance the institution As was stated in last weeks issue of this paper bookasta book sta and magazines were actually be borrowed from the library in the twelve hours it was open that week again last monday booksh and magazines were let out in tour four hours and practically as many returned many of which were damaged and will have to be fixed by the tha librarian before being let out again hours ot of work must be done at the library when the library Is not open to to keep the tha booksh in order aces slon a telling lne classifying and repairing books looking up graded lists of reading finding references called tor for going over book lists making out orders and writing letters etc for services rendered the librarian has received talking taking the average a salary of 2195 per month P eiery ery librarian in utah in ganab kanab is receiving 60 50 cents per hour over tor for the services lu in order to tilt till tho the requirements of librarian anyone must hive have a tour four years high school diploma valid one no year college or its equivalent as well so as having taken course an library work some people in chanab kanab have in the past not stopped to think that it takes hours to classify and accession an order of books and to repair those already on the ithe shelves when in reality this la Is part of 0 the work that takes kakes special training any adult with a few hours training can check books ifor loaning it if they knowl know the classification and can find books asked tor for it la Is hoped that enough money will be received from taxes to keep the library going tor for our children it if tor for no other cause library patrons patrona can help the library materially by seeing that books borrowed are taken care ot of while in their homes and returned promptly within the two weeks tor for which they have been borrowed also by reading books from the rental last month 49 50 were received from fines and rentals this money if used to buy more books to replenish this rental shell shelf and in this way nearly all ot of our adult books are purchased at the present time not elouth of the parents come to the ahe library the librarian sends out special invitation to the parents pl arents of kanab to come to the library between and 6 5 and monday wednesday and friday afternoon and see whether the library Is really rendering service to the tha public |
