Show MASKED BALL A COMPLETE FINANCIAL AND SOCIAL SUCCESS Numerous and Varied Stunts Furnished Amusement Between Dances Many Prizes Given Last Friday evening between eight and nine Dine hundred people third one-third of whom were spectators spectators spectators tors assembled in the Gymnasium to participate in the masked ball The Gymnasium cleared of apparatus was one beautiful expanse of soft- soft light which had filtered through hundreds of dependent Chinese lanterns and smooth inviting inviting inviting ing floor Upon a slightly raised platform on the north side of the hall the orchestra under the direction of Mr 11 Squire Coop furnished the most beautiful dance music we have ever listened to in the Gymnasium The banquet hall adjoining the Gymnasium rioted in lights of many hues caught from lanterns lanterns lanterns lan lan- terns flags beautiful rugs telling fortune-telling recesses recesses recesses re re- and cosy There the easy chairs and soft couches as well as the supper room arranged in the south end of the hall attracted both dancers and spectators throughout the even even- ing Here also in the northeast corner the engineers engineers engineers en en- pitched a tent with various insignia of the profession both within and without while in inan inan inan an opposite corner the Amici fraternity fraternity fraternity frater frater- served Scotch pies hot tamales and hot dogs But the maskers of course with their jinks and their varied costumes were of most interest There was There was a grand march led by Carmen and anda a Spanish officer in full court costume in which all the masked dancers joined but their numbers were too great to permit of any fancy marching After a few dances the jinks began The Normal Backwoods in a cleared space before the orchestra platform performed a square dance in the costumes of country boys and girls Miss l Fox and her little girls played a singing and dancing game which was very well done There was the usual dance program between the j jinks inks In the dimmest of lights Mr 1 Squire Coops Coop's crept into the midst of the white settlers and with curdling blood-curdling yells and war- war whoops executed the Indian chorus from The Burgomaster And they did it better than professionals professionals professionals pro pro- too Then as if to calm the settlers still scattered over the floor and to restore their courage the Order of the Gleam as vestal virgins placed their votive offerings upon an altar The most amusing jinks of the evening a football game adapted from the tle Faculty Game was pulled off by the Gamma Phi girls The Gym Girls did a fetching Spanish dance and Mrs 1 in a Spanish costume gave a song and dance from the opera of Carmen The Scribblers Scribblers Scribblers Scrib Scrib- club in Hunting Green costumes grouped themselves about their camp kettle ettle and sang a amale amale amale male chorus from Robin Hood so well that the judges awarded them the group prize prize Rolfe's Rolfe's full edition of Shakespeare The best as well as the most beautiful and most artistic jinks finks Y was s the last last Miss Miss Delaney's Greek dance in costume This dancer received the only encore of the even even- ing The prizes awarded were to the following Group prize Scribblers prize Scribblers Scribbler's club first individual second prize prize Miss Miss Delaney Greek Dancer prize prize l Mr Daniel Spencer The Ballet Dancer third individual prize prize Miss Miss Francis Rogers Sis Hopkins fourth individual prize prize Miss Miss Rhea Simonds Marguerite fifth individual prize prize prize- Miss Alice Brown Pocahontas sixth individual prize prize Miss Miss Gillis Spanish Dancer If the had been ten in number instead instead instead in in- stead of eight they would have received the group prize As it was they did not fulfill the regulations stipulated Among the many beautiful and ingenious ingeni ingeni- ous costumes were those of Mrs G. F W. W Reynolds Judge and Mr A. A B.
