Show PLAN FOR BICENTENNIAL CONCERT. The special production is scheduled for April 23 and 24. Manning-Halverson Oratorical group to present Bicentennial Concert A Bicentennial Concert of the Manning-Halversen Oratorical Society will be presented Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24, it was announced this week. The special two-night production will be staged in the Recital Hall of the Southern Utah State College campus and will feature the Oratorical orchestra and chorus; the SUSC A Capella Choir and the Cedar High School A Capella Choir. One of the featured works to be performed at the Bicentennial production will be "Chimney Rock" a selection commissioned by the Society with lyrics by David Lee and music by James Dunaway. Other selections to be performed per-formed will be "America' by Billings; "America" Anthem by Ernest Bloch; "Notes from Tom Payne" by Dello Joio, and "Natchez on the Hill" by John Powell. In addition the group will perform "Song of Democracy" by Howard Hanson. The selection selec-tion has special significance in that the text of the song relaters how the Democratic ideals of the country is passed on from the adults to the children with the school serving as the vehicle. The work is being jointly prepared by the Oratorical Chorus and the Cedar High School Chorus. Directors for the production will include Dave Nyman, Blaine Johnson, Shirley Roper and James Dunaway. The special Bicentennial Event is being supported by a grant from the Utah American .Revolution Bicentennial Commission. |
