' 1Q6 Mile Long Lake Yours To Enov In this land of coral pink sand dunes, vast desert-like areas, and thousands of acres of solid rock formations, there is every conceivable activity for the water lover. One of the world's largest man-made lakes, the 186 mile long Lake Powell, offers superb boating, swimming, water skiing, camping and fishing. The Lake's fingers extend into brilliantly colored sheer rock canyons and open up natural wonders like Rainbow Bridge which were practically inaccessible inac-cessible before Glen Canyon Dam began backing up the waters of the Colorado River into over 1,8000 miles of shoreline. Modern marinas offer boat rentals and complete - supplies, and there are public launching ramps on the lake as well as the rivers. The region's three mighty rivers, the Colorado, the Green and the San Juan, have carved through layer upon layer of geologic time, exposing sediments of the centuries for the enlightenment of amateur and professional geologist. . m These are the main tributaries of the Lake. To reach Lake Powell take Utah Highways 15 or 59 to Kanaband then U.S. 89 to Page, Arizona. This is a very scenic drive, up 15 thru Zions Parks or 59 cutting thru the Arizona Strip, Cattle Country of Utah, and also the Pipe Springs National Monument. |
