He currently holds the record in the 100 yard dash with a 9.7 clocking. Begin Track and Field season Redmen to defend state title With Brad Jackson, a three event winner from last year's state championship track and field team, the Cedar City High School Redmen are ready this week to open the quest for another state title. The Redmen were expected ex-pected to be in action Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Davis High School in a duel meet, but the first really big test of the season will be the Dixie Invitational Meet to be held Mike Graf is expected to pick up points in the high jump, Mark Jones should be strong in the polevault and Roger Seegmiller should get points in the shotput. "Our overall team strength will not be known until after some meets," Dalton said. "We should have a better indication of our strength following the Dixie meet." Jackson is starting off j strong, it appears. In time trials he has been clocked in 9.8 in the 100 - he holds the state record with a 9.7 j timing - and he has been. 1 clocked under 50 seconds in 7 the 440. This week he was expected to run in the 100 and 220 and on the mile relay team. "We don't want to push too much on him too soon," Dalton said. at St. George April 1. Jackson captured first place honors in the 100, 220 and 440 yard dashes last year, just half of the first place output in garnering the state title. To win a track meet you need more than one man, however. The Redmen, according to coaches Jim Dalton and Bob Schex-nayder, Schex-nayder, have some outstanding out-standing talent in other areas. Jeff Middleton and Neil Giles have been elected co-captains co-captains for the season. Middleton should be tough in the weight events, particularly par-ticularly the javelin and Giles is a good prospect in the middle distances. |
