The formations are made stronger by a horny substance or animal tissue and are strong enough to outlast very hard rock. The parts of coral which make up the formation take many different forms, as that of a shrub, a flower, a cup or a mushroom. The main forms of coral are the staghorn, brain and the madroporic. There are three main colors of coral the red coral which is found in the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian gulf, the black coral which is 'very Bcarce and much more valuable than the red coral, and the white coral which is the most common kind and is found in almost any sea or ocean.
