Show Troopers change "Hats" The Utah Highway announces an-nounces a change of uniform (the trooper campaign hat). On Nov. 16 the patrolmen throughout the state began wearing a brown "smokey bear hat". Prior to 1955, the Highway Patrol uniform included a beige campaign hat- in summer months along with a garrison cap in winter months. This was later changed to wearing of the garrison cap full time in the fall of 1955. Then in 1974, the ad ministration of the patrol again went back to the "smokey bear" campaign hat. But, because of the beige color of the hat, it was soon found that the durability was poor and cleaning and blocking were impossible. So this year, with the assistance of the Utah Highway High-way Patrol Association, a survey was conducted and a new hat adopted. The new hat being brown in color will hopefully prove to be more durable and yet still enhance the state trooper image. |
