Show S Interchange hearing draws request from lives! ockmen A request for improvement for passes of livestock across Interstate Highway 15 near the south Cedar City interchange inter-change was made at a public hearing held in connection with the proposed addition of on and off ramps on the facil- The hearing, conducted by I Clem Church, member of the State Road Commission, heard the request by livestock inter- I est who indicated that exist- t: ing facilities at the location .;t are not adequate and that fu- ture development of the addi- tion of on and off ramps could in the future further compli- ' cate the movement of approx- 1, imately 60,000 livestock to i and from the Cedar Mountain ranges each year. No objections to the proposed pro-posed addition were voiced at the hearing as the commission commis-sion attempted ascertain public pub-lic sentiment regarding the additions. The proposal, as explained by district, engineer C. A. Anderson An-derson includes a north bound on ramp, a south bound off ramp, the relocation of the service road and the improvement improve-ment of an Intersection to allow al-low for better flow of traffic from the service road into the interchange underpass. Approved by the U. S. Department De-partment of Highways, the I project, nevertheless, is pro- posed to 'be financed exclu sively through state fund and $100,000 has been a.pprop riatcd for the Improvement. Commissioner Church indi cated that the commission ha found that the interchange providing for four way move ment of traffic has proven to be most satisfactory, although in a similar hearing the pre vious day a request had been made to the commission to change a four-way intoi change to force traffic coming off the freeway to travel through the community before rejoining the interstate sys tem. Several organizational bod ies spoke in favor of the pro posed improvement. Livestock interests testifying at the hearing voiced no ob jection to the improvement but requested that the established estab-lished right-of-way of cattle access be considered for improvement im-provement in connection with the project. The livestock interest proposed pro-posed to the commission the relocation to the north of the existing underpass at the Interchange In-terchange and the eventual elimination of the south slopes of the underpass with the construction con-struction of a retaining wall and fencing in order that eventually ev-entually cattle could be moved to the south of all existing roadways in the complex without with-out interfering with vehicle travel. |
