Show (MS wrestlers face heavy slate! After a week layoff the Cedar Ce-dar High School Rodman wrestling team will be back in action Monday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Fillmore t0 meet the tough Millard Eagles in a non-league match. The matches will serve as a warm up for Coach Pensis and the Redmen who will return re-turn home for a league match against the Dixie Flyers on Thursday, Jan. 6. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. Coming off the holiday layoff lay-off the Redmen hold a five win and two loss record over all. In league competition the Cedar grapplers are two wins and a loss. Losses came at the hands of Kanab and Delta with the Kanab matches affecting league standings. Wins have been over Parowan and Hurricane Hur-ricane in league competition and over Milford, Moapa Valley Val-ley and Beaver in practice sessions. The Redmen will have Ken Urie wrestling at the 98 pound class but are having trouble filling a vacancy in the 105 classification. Kevin Jones has been working at that weight but so far has been unable to make the weight limitation. He has wrestled exhibition several times with good suc-?ess suc-?ess but has had to forfeit owing ow-ing to the weight overage. At 112 is Craig Rollo, the only undefeated memlber of the squad. He has a string of seven victories and is the only memlber of the team that won his way to state last year. Rollo finished fourth in the 105 class in state competition last year. At 119 and 126 are two sophomore wrestlers, Theron Heaps and Russell Robinson, respectively. Both have been impressive for their first year of high school competition and could improve as the season progresses. Top man at , 132 is Rick Lynch, a junior who shows good strength and anility. He will run into tough competition competi-tion in the Region however at this weight. Randy Robinson is holding down the 138 spot and has only one loss on his record this year, that a non-lea,gue encounter against Delta. He'll ibe one df the strong contend- ers for- the Redmen this season. sea-son. ... At 145 is Ed DeLong, a senior sen-ior who has potential. Delong was suspended for three matches following his opening open-ing match against Milford, but is back now and should be a top point getter. Steve Moss is holding down the 155 spot and , has been competitive in all his matches match-es this season but at 167 two Redmen are battling for first spot. They include Lawrence Esplin and Curtis DeMille. Before each match the Red-men Red-men hold wrestle-offs in which a first place man is determined de-termined for each weight, Esplin Es-plin has got the nod the majority ma-jority of the time but is being pushed by. DeMille and the competition on the squad could be good for both of them. Dan Humphery, a junior is handling the 185 division and has been tough but lacks experience. ex-perience. ' It is his first year with the wrestling team and he is improving with each match. At the unlimited division divi-sion is Robert Archibald, another an-other senior, who has capabilities capabil-ities but is facing some tough competition. |
