Show For the first time in the history of the University field work on an extended scale has been undertaken by students working in the department de- de of f Geology The members of the advanced geology class composed of senior engineers have undertaken a study of the San x Francisco Mining Alining District at Newhouse in Beaver County Such a course follows but naturally in the order of events that have transpired in the University since the School of Mines l was es established established established es- es by the legislature ten years ago The need of field work or of the practical experience whether it be bein bein in the thc chemistry laboratory the surveying surveying- field the mill or the mine F has become such a component part of the educational system established in the Utah School of Mines l that its position in the course of study is prominent and important Work York in advanced field geology however is a difficult matter Three years of solid preparation are required d before the student can accomplish accomplish accomplish ac ac- much in the way of independent work although throughout the course as in any other association with the geological features studied in class with the same features in the field is of immense value and assistance Because of its dependence upon so many subjects all of r which have an n important bearing on the result achieved it has been extremely difficult to institute work of this nature Now that it has been instituted it is to be hoped that th the department will continue work of this nature each succeeding year If the results achieved are good by proper use they may serve to assist the school school if the results are not entirely successful they will have at least benefited the members rs of th the class by giving them a proper insight as s s to how to attempt such f work |
