Show Counftv School bmi takes action on Ms Five separate bids were 1 awarded at the regular meeting meet-ing of the Iron County School Board Monday. Alma Evans of Parowan was awarded the contract as the low of four bidders for the sup-plying sup-plying of coal for the district for the next school year. The bid was for $9.80 per ton. Bids were opened and a contract con-tract let for the installation of curb and gutter and sidewalk on the west side f the Cedar Junior High School football field, Allen Heaton, one of three bidders, was low and received re-ceived the contract. His bid called for. curb and gutter installation in-stallation at $2.11) a linear foot, driveways at 69 cents a square font and sidewalk at $2.10 a linear foot. Western Gold Dairies was 1 awarded the contract for the supplying of milk for the school lunch program during. the year at .0G6 cents per half pint with straws. One of the major bid items was the sale of the . Palmer property located on the corner of Harding Avenue and 200 West and originally bought by the district as a passible site for an administration building. build-ing. Five bids were submitted and the high bid of $15,005 submitted by Cedar Lumber and Hardware was accepted. A second bid of slightly over $13,000 was submitted by Naomi Na-omi Lunt. Additional bid was for the contract for maintenance of sewing machines for the school system, and Emer Jar-vis Jar-vis was awarded the contract Two teachers were approved approv-ed by the board and Superintendent Superin-tendent Clair Morris was authorized auth-orized to proceed as soon as possible to fill the two existing exist-ing vancies. Approved for the year were Elaine Nelson as . the Girls' Physical Education teacher at Cedar High School and Kathleen Kath-leen B. Smith, to instruct third grade at the Cedar East Elementary Ele-mentary school. . The existing vacancies include in-clude an art Instructor at the Cedar Junior High School and a Distributive E d u c a tion teacher at Cedar High School. Approval was given by the board for the Cedar High School band to attend the La Mesa, Ariz band tournament in May. 1972. Host Chamber of Commerce will provide housing hous-ing and the district authorized authoriz-ed transportation for the major ma-jor trip. Authorization was also given giv-en for the calling for bids for the supplying of potatoes for the school lunch program. Details of the upcoming school year were reviewed and Superintendent Morris indicated indicat-ed that three officials of .the state department would be In attendance, for ;the Teacher Conference slated for Monday, August 23. They will include Dr. Jedd Wasden, Morris Rowley Row-ley and Ray Werner. Teachers and administrators will be in their respective schools Tuesday Tues-day 1 and Wednesday in preparation pre-paration for the official opening open-ing of school Thursday, Aug. 26. Insurance rates, which increased in-creased between 16 and' 17 percent over the past year, were discussd by the board. It was also reported that nine students from Brian Head would enter the district schools this year and authorization author-ization for the district to provide pro-vide transportation was given. It was indicated that addi-tional addi-tional students would enter the system later in the year. |
