Show J WHY SUPPORT THE CHRONICLE A If the entire student body believed as s the great majority ity of them do the above question would be ridiculous But there there are a I de- de demand few few and I 1 am glad to say a very few among us who seem t to demand demand de- de mand a reason reason why reason why they should pay their dollar towards the support support support sup sup- port of our college The asked I paper question was vas me only recently recently recently re- re by a student who would no doubt fight if he were charged with being an member of the student body and I 1 am f certain that there are a few others who are in doubt about the ques ques- tion tion Now the present editorial is only addressed to them and nd I 1 will endeavor to give those students at at least one reason as 1 I see it it why the Chronicle should be supported N The Chronicle is sent out to a great many of the prominent t universities 1 and of the country It is sent to the merchants who advertise in its columns and a many of the prominent educators educators educators tors of the state It is placed upon the magazine stand of our own city library and doubtless on those of other libraries not only in n Utah but other western states Thus it has a large and critical t class of readers who knows us lS only through its pages Judgment z zas as as to what we are and what we do here as as' as an educational institution institution in in- in- in n is based almost entirely on n the character of our paper To illustrate I r spent pent an hour or two at one of the large universities cities of th the the Pa Pacific coast this s summer and and in iri a a conversation with one one of the stud students he left me to understand that Utah was vas vas' T looked looked ook d upon q quite 1 te gene generally ally by the st students dents dents' of th that t university as a second clays second class ss' ss i institution n He justified d his biSi assertion on b by saying that 1 V I I 11 f j r r L our p paper per was no better than a High Schools School's and many manly ti times es it J had been below what could even b be expected of a High School Iam I 1 am aIll not passing my IllY judgment as to whether or not the criticism was was was' justified but it serves to emphasize point Make the Chronicle Chronicle Chronicle Chron- Chron icle an up date up-to-date date to-date first class college publication and nd it means adding adding adding ad ad- ding to the prestige of the university but it cannot be made first- first class by the editor and his staff alone It needs the backing f financially financially finan- finan nan dally and otherwise of every student in the ins institution So the students who ask ask themselves the question Why should I support I the Chronicle must remember that while the money they spend L k 4 on it or t the e time they may devote ote to it does not mean much to them i it t does mean a lot towards the success of t the e Chronicle and the f q suc success of the Chronicle means added prestige eto to the university N s R |
