Show Parowan Chamber president asks for unity in County Seat question Iron County have seen fit to locate the county seat here," There is and would be only slight inconvenience to a very small group of people almost al-most entirely attorneys and people dealing heavily in real estate - because of the location of the county seat now, Smith indicated. 'This is overwhelmingly overshadowed by several other considerations," Smith said. "One is the schism in the good relations that exist within with-in the county. Another is the serious blow to the pride of one portion of the county. Another is the creation of one area of the county that completely com-pletely dominates the rest of the county; this is not condu cive to healthy growth of the entire county, as evidenced by the Wasatch Front domination of Utah." There are absolutely no reasons to think that any county governmental services now available in Cedar City should not continue, and ther are absolutely no reasons why the cost of county government gov-ernment should increase if the county seat remains in Parowan, Smith pointed out. "In fact, there are some in dications that county govern-1 ment would be less expensive if conducted from Parowan." "If each individual citizen of the county would ask himself him-self if he is inconvenienced by the location of the county seat, each would see that he isn't. We want the cooperation to continue." Smith indicated that the Parowan Chamber of Commerce Com-merce feels that only a small group of people have any real interest in moving the county seat from Parowan, and that this small group is posing a serious threat to the unity of the county. "Iron County has got to work together if we are to accomplish the things that we want to accomplish," Smith said. "We can't allow a few people to stir up the entire papulation enough to threaten relationships within the county." Only a few people outside Parowan really care where the county seat is located, according ac-cording to Smith. "And the reason the people of Parowan havc strong feelings, is because be-cause they have a great deal of pride that the people of |
