Good-ing. Importance of Tourism Cannon, formerly with the Utah Tourist and Pubilicty Department De-partment of the State of Utah, has been close to the development develop-ment for a number of years and he is expected to comment on the importance of community efforts in providing tourist attractions. The park, to be located on property pro-perty adjacent to U. S. Highway 91 immediately north of Coal Creek, is to be named Iron Mission Mis-sion Park, and is designed to be a beautiful plaza for the preservation preser-vation and enjoyment of history. The site includes 12 to 15 acres and is near the site of the first foundry and not far from the first Cedar City camp of the Iron Mission Mis-sion pioneers. Land is being made available by the Cedar City Corporation and the Iron County Commission. Tentative plans call for a hall of transportation and agriculture to house the Gronway Parry Collection Col-lection plus a relic hall for the daughters of the Pioneers and other private collections. A reproduction re-production of the old iron foundry found-ry is also planned for the historical histor-ical site. First phase of the program being be-ing undertaken by the Chamber of Commerce Is the raising of funds for the acquisition of the 38 bais items of the Gronway Parry collection of horse-drawn vehicles with the horses, harnesses, har-nesses, figures and costumes, and the complete representative collection col-lection of horse-drawn machinery machin-ery of the pioneer era. Unique Collection The collection is unique and is presotly available for sale. It is indicated that although other offers for the collection have been made the Parry family is desir-ious desir-ious of having the collection remain re-main in this area and are offering offer-ing it to the Iron Mission Park at a more than equitable price. Purpose of the project is to preserve pre-serve a proud historical heritage, to provide students and teachers of history with a first-hand knowledge with the properties of the past and to put Cedar City on the tourist map in larger letters let-ters than ever before. Many community, and church leaders have endorsed the project pro-ject and placed their support behind be-hind it. Such support is evedenc-ed evedenc-ed by the following letter over we signature oi A. Hi. WnatCOtt, Cedar Stake President, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gentlemen: We are pleased to learn that plans are moving ahead for the acquisition of the Gronway Parry horse-drawn vehicle and farm implement collection. Also to learn of plans to house this valuable val-uable Southern Utah pioneer memorabilia. As you now launch this campaign to enlist the sud- port of the citizens of Iron County Coun-ty and Southern Utah may we add our hearty endorsement and best wishes as well as to pledge our personal support. We shall further be happy to encourage the members of the Cedar Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support this vital and worthwhile project. Supported by Church As members of the Mormon Church we recognize the great debt of appreciation that we owe to our pioneer ancestors who were instrumental in the settling of this area. It was by the direction direc-tion of Church leaders that the first settlers were called to the Iron Mission. Through their ere-mendous ere-mendous devotion, faith and personal dedication there was laid the foundation of all that we now enjoy. We can do no less than to preserve the story of their great accomplishments, thereby providing for ourselves and our children a clearer vision of the present and the future through a link with the past. We congratulate you on your efforts and wish you success. Sincerely, CEDAR STAKE PRESIDENCY By A. E. Whatcott, President The kickoff meeting is open to the public. Anyone and everyone every-one interested is invited and encouraged en-couraged to attend. |
