Show Ken Knight, Garth Chatterley Win School Board Posts Ken Knight and Dr. Garth Chatterley were named to the Iron County Board of Education Educa-tion as the result of elections Tuesday. Knight was re-elected to the post for another four-year term from School District No. 5, defeating his opponent Thelmer Stratton by a wide margin, Final tabulation gave Knight 813 votes to 155 for Stratton. The race was restricted restrict-ed to those voting districts contained within the school district and included voting district 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Chatterley defeated Orville Isom for the post from School District No. 4, including voting vot-ing districts 5, 6, 7 and 8. Chatterley Chat-terley polled 681. votes to 430 for Orville Isom. Chatterley will succeed Dr. Eugene T. Woolf as the representative repre-sentative District 4. Woolf, who has served two terms on the board of education, did not seek re-election, but was a candidate for a position on the Utah State Board of Education, Edu-cation, but was unsuccessful in his bid for the position. Dexter C. Snow of St. George won the position on the state board to represent District 5, which includes Washington, Iron, Beaver, Milard and Juab Counties. Snows' election con- tinues a trend of representation represen-tation from this district to the state board, which has given practically complete domination to St. George of , the representation to the board for the past 33 years at least. In that period of time only two terms have been filled by anyone other than a St. George resident, One term was filled by a Beaver Bea-ver County resident, and one by a Millard County citizen. Woolf won handily in Iron County in the balloting Tuesday, Tues-day, but the candidate from St. George, as usual, carried that county overwhelming, and was sucessful by varying margins in the other three cuunti4 J |
