plans the Catalogue states state After 1907 no student will be admitted to full standing in the University who has not completed the equivalent of a high school course of four years The student must show evidence of this this either i by passing entrance examinations or by presenting certificates properly signed by responsible high school authorities This work must include r four years of English one year of algebra i. i e. e Algebra a plane geometry complete and one year of history ancient or mediaeval or general or English or American and the aggregate of nine units chosen from among the studies usually taught in high schools The term unit as here used means the equivalent of one subject pursued for one year of approximately nine months with four or five recitations recitations recitations of forty-five forty minutes each per week A subject pursued for only a year half-year or for a whole year year with fewer than the equivalent of four recitations per week is rated at but a subjects other than those here named credit may be given provided evidence is furnished that it has been well done If one year only in any language is offered at entrance the student student student stu stu- dent must continue the study of that language for at least one year in college With respect to the elimination of preparatory work the preparatory preparatory preparatory prepa prepa- pamphlet makes the following general statement Though the University no longer attempts to give a complete high school course it still offers considerable instruction of preparatory grade This instruction is designed deigned for students from high schools which do donot donot donot not as yet give a complete high school course and for others who have not fully met the entrance requirements to the University The University desires to encourage the establishment of high schools in all parts of the state and to do all in its power to foister them after they are established Its policy therefore is to urge students students students stu stu- dents to remain in their local high hig-h school until they have completed its course At the same time the University is unwilling that any break shall exist between the work of the high schools of the state and that of the University High school students who are ambitious n to secure a college education should not be held back through lack of ready opportunity to obtain complete preparation It is to supply such opportunity and thus to make sure that its own collegiate work shall t be properly recruited that the University still offers instruction of preparatory preparatory preparatory pre pre- grade In accordance with this policy the following requirements for admission admission ad ad- mission to preparatory instruction are in effect FIRST YEAR Beginning with 1907 no students are admitted to the instruction of first year high school grade except holders of the normal scholarships These students must according to law be graduates graduates graduates grad grad- o oi of the district schools SECOND YEAR In 1907 only those students will be to lo lothe the instruction of second year high school grade who register as
