Show Cedar Redmen Downed By Tigers By 13-12 Cedar City High School football foot-ball team, for lack of extra points went down to defeat Friday night at the hands of the Milford Tigers, Tig-ers, at Milford, 13 to 12. In a se'e-saw battle, that saw all of the scoring in the first half of play, the Tigers converted on a quarterback keeper to pick up the point after touchdown, the margin of victory. The Redmen struck on a quick opener over the middle that allowed al-lowed fullback Glade "Stony" Ileybome, to ramble off 40 yards for the TD. The PAT attempt by Mike Petty was good, but an illegal il-legal motion penalty nullified the point and an attempt from five yards back was no good, leaving the Redmen with a 6 to 0 lead. The TD came of the first series of downs with the Redmen marching from the opening kick-off kick-off for the score. The Tigers, utilizing an alternating alter-nating off-tackle plunge and end sweep came back strong to score with McGinn of the Tigers eloing the scoring to even the score at 6-all on an off-tackle play. In the second period of play the Redmen again broke loose for a big gainer with Wade Roberts Ro-berts breaking into the open on an end sweep and racing 60 yards for pay dirt and a 12 to 6 lead for the Redmen. Again the PAT was missed by Petty. Before the halftime whistle had blown, however, the Tigers again marched for a score with the quarterback scoring from five yards out on a fake to the middle and rollout around end. They used us-ed the same play to score the point after to give them an intermission inter-mission lead of 13 to 12, which held up for the entire second half and a Tiger victory. The Redmen defense came to life in the second half of play to contain the Tigers with no serious ser-ious threat of scorng. The Redmen as well were held in the third quarter of play but then came back to knock on the door in the final period. Down field fast on a punt, one of two by the Redmen, they pounced on a loose ball to run it over for what they thought to be a score. It was brought back, however, to the point of possession and the Redmen moved from there to the Tiger five before they were stopped stop-ped and time ran out. |
