Show LIVING IN ESCALANTE VALLEY I HELP NEEDED TO SECURE BOOKMOBILE SERVICE It has been reported that there is a good possibility that the Escalante Es-calante Valley eould secure the services of a bookmo'.ile, or trav. eling library if it could be shown that there was a need and a desire for such service n the part of the people there. Anyone who would be Interested In bringing this valuable service to the valley is urged to write a letter to the Iron County Commissioners, Com-missioners, Parowan, Utah at ones telling of their interest and the reading needs of their family. fam-ily. MEETING OF PTA COMMITTEE HEADS PLANNED Doris P'vlersen, president of the Ksralante Valley PTA has announced that a meeting of the chairman of all IT A committees for the 1958-59 season has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, Mon-day, Oct. 13. The exact time of the meeting has not been set; however everyone concerned will be notified as soon as possible. At this time the PTA officers will outline the duties of each of the committees, and will discuss the over all plans for the year's activities. Mrs. Pedersen also an nounced that Mrs. Betty McCarty of Newcastle has agreed to serve as room representative from the Escalante Valley to the Iron County PTA Council. A CORRECTION It was erroneously reported last week that Mrs. Grace Tucker Tuck-er was the viting registration agent for the Beryl Precinct. Mrs. Tucker Is the postmaster at Beryl and as such is not eligible eli-gible for any politically connect-h1 connect-h1 office. The registration agent for the Beryl area is Hal Tucker. There are only two more voting registration days before the November No-vember election Oct. 14 and Oct. 28. Make sure your name is on the list. If you aren"t registered regis-tered you can't vote. Voters living liv-ing south of the Antelope Road register at the Alfred Pedersen residence just west of the Crossroads Cross-roads on U 56, and those living north of the Antelope Road reg- lster at the Hal Tucker residence resi-dence in the rear of the Beryl Post Offiice. To be eligible to register you must have been a resident of the state for one year, of the county for four months, and of the precinct for 60 days. DUCK HUNTING POOR Although a few hunters report-ed report-ed getting their limit on the opening op-ening day of duck season In the Escalante Valley, hunting generally gen-erally was reported to be pretty slow, according to Bryner Wood, president of the Escalante Valley Wildlife Federation. There were practically no mallards taken, and bags were confined entirely to pintail and teal. CALENDAR OF COMING EVENTS Oct. 9: Parent and Scout get acquainted ac-quainted night. BOYS' AND GIRLS' ACTIVITIES 4-H Achievement Night Set According to Mrs. Edith Hunt, Girls' 4-H Club leader in the Escalante Es-calante Valley, the annual 4-H Achievement Night has been tentatively ten-tatively scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24. A program featuring all of the 4-H Club members in the valley has been planned, and awards will be presented. Special awards will be presented by the Iron County agents and by the banks in the county. It Is expect, ed that County Agricultural Agent Wallace Sjoblom, County Home Agent Mabel Merrill, and a representative of the Banker's Association will be present. All parents and 4-H Club boosters are urged to be in attendance. REPORT FROM THE SCOUTS By David Piper This will be a busy week for the Boy Scouts. On Thursday, Oct. 9 they will have a Parents and Scouts get-acquainted night to permit parents to become better bet-ter acquainted with each other and with the scout leaders. Also this week the Boy Scouts are going go-ing to pass out Civil Defense handbooks. Den One of the Cub Scouts has been reorganized. They meet on Tuesdays at Mrs. Phyllis Wood's home. They are going to have two new members, Freddie Torres and Chris Applegate.
